Yes, a free wordpress site might work for you, the domain name is one that is easy to remember because so many people have wordpress sites and you can't argue with the price.

It may work fine for you, but if you want any upgrades from their free package they are expensive (compared to “real” web site hosting).

If you will do quite a few updates then it is a good way to go. I use Joomla instead of wordpress because it is a lot more powerful.
